About the artist L
L (Joelle Monique) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, GA who was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Spelman College and has cultivated a career rooted in service and hospitality with a diverse background in human resources, visual merchandising, personal styling, branding and web design.

A Note from L
From as early as I can remember, I’ve always had a love affair with stationery and art. I can vividly remember flipping through the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle magazines as a young girl while in line at the grocery store, desperately seeking to find faces that looked like me but found very few to none. I dreamed of being the next Naomi or Tyra, so I could not only be an image of inspiration to another black or brown child to look up to as I did to my superheroes, but also to make art. That is what those fashion editorial spreads were to me — living art. I remember having 3 things I wanted to be when I grew up: a teacher, a model, or a fashion designer. I lacked the patience to be a teacher, I had the height but wasn’t the right size to be a model in those times, and I couldn’t sew well enough to be a fashion designer; but, the one thing I had were my sketches! I’ve always loved to illustrate and create; even before I knew there was a name for what I was doing.

I’ve also been known to lose myself in the greeting card aisles. Selecting a card has always been very personal to me. I take time to read the messages, to find artwork that is unique and if I’m lucky enough— looks like me too, while also matching the feelings I wish to evoke. I often found a void when searching for this which is how Noteworthy Couture was born. It was cultivated to meet a need for a stationery brand to meet all your greeting needs, where everyone could feel seen and represented with the ability to craft a personal tailored message to express yourself packaged in a beautiful and unique design.
